One to three weeks ahead for a typical trip. Three to six for a holiday or a rental of a week or more.
But the honest answer for booking with us depends on something most rental companies won't tell you, so let's start there.
We have two cars
A national chain has a lot full of cars and can move you between them. We can't. When one of ours is out, there is one left — and when both are out, there's nothing we can do for you at any price.
So the reason to book ahead isn't a sales tactic about demand. It's arithmetic. It also means booking with us is unusually concrete: you're reserving that specific car, not a “midsize or similar” that turns out to be whatever's left on the lot.
The longer the rental, the earlier you need to book
This is the part people get wrong, and it isn't about how busy we are.
A weekend booking needs one car free for two days. A week-long booking needs one car free for seven consecutive days. Every existing reservation in that window rules the car out — not just one that overlaps your start date.
So a car can be sitting available on your Friday and still be useless to you, because it's promised to someone else on Monday. Two cars, and gaps fill from both ends.
That's why the guidance below stretches as the rental gets longer. It isn't caution. Longer bookings are simply harder to fit.
How far ahead, by trip type
- Same day or tomorrow — book now, and be flexible on which car and what time
- A weekend — one to two weeks
- A typical vacation — one to three weeks
- A week or longer — three to four weeks
- A holiday or peak week — four to six weeks
- You need the SUV specifically, or a tight delivery window — as soon as your dates are firm
These are targets, not deadlines. Cars come free when plans change, so it's always worth checking. But if your dates are fixed and your trip depends on having a car, don't gamble on it.
Peak periods worth planning around
South Florida doesn't have one season, it has a lot of spikes: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year, Presidents Day, spring break, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, the winter tourist stretch, big conventions, and heavy cruise weekends at Port Everglades.
Aim for the earlier end of the ranges above when your dates land on any of those — and especially when they land on one and you need a week.
What a longer booking is worth
Both cars are $65 a day. Book seven days or more and 10% comes off the rate automatically; a month or more takes 20% off. No code, nothing to ask for.
You'll see it as its own line on the quote — enter your dates on a car's page and the discount shows up in the breakdown before you pay anything.
That's the other reason not to multiply a daily rate and assume you know the total. A worked seven-day example, end to end:
what a week actually costs.
Free cancellation makes booking early nearly risk-free
Cancel 24 hours or more before your start time and you get a full refund. Later than that, a cancellation fee may apply.
Which removes most of the reason to wait. If your dates are reasonably firm, reserving now costs you nothing and secures the car; holding off just to see whether something better appears risks the car for no gain.
Should you wait for the price to drop?
Our price doesn't move with demand. It's $65 a day today and $65 a day the week before Christmas, with the same discounts for longer bookings.
So there's no last-minute deal to wait for here. What waiting costs you is choice — of car, of delivery time, and of whether there's a car at all.
Booking around a flight
Once your flight is booked, your dates are firm enough to reserve the car. For most travelers that means one to three weeks before arrival rather than after landing.
Have your arrival date and rough time ready, your flight number if you have it, where you're staying, and when you expect to hand the car back. If your flight slips, tell us as soon as you know — we can usually move a delivery, but not at ten minutes' notice.
Coming off a cruise?
Port Everglades unloads thousands of people into Fort Lauderdale in a very short window, and several ships often turn around on the same morning. That's a genuine demand spike on a predictable date.
If you already know you're staying a few days after the cruise, book before you sail. Disembarkation morning is the worst possible time to start looking — and cruise luggage is exactly when you want to have secured the SUV rather than hoped for it.
Can you book the same day?
Often, yes — but two things have to line up, and one of them is the clock.
We're open seven days a week — Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 2pm. You can book online at any hour, but a delivery has to happen inside those windows, and anything needing a person — a verification that didn't clear automatically, an unusual license — waits for the next one. A request at 5pm on Friday for a car that evening is very unlikely; the same request at 5pm on Saturday means Sunday morning at the earliest.
The other thing is verification. Submitting a booking isn't the same as being approved: your license, identity, insurance or coverage selection, and payment all have to clear before a car moves. That's usually quick, but it isn't instant, and a blurry license photo can add an hour.
If you need a car today, start early in the day, answer every message the moment it arrives, and stay flexible on which car and what time.
Get your verification out of the way
Whenever you book, finish the requirements straight away rather than on delivery day. You'll need a valid license, identity verification, a payment card in your own name, and either insurance we can verify or our renter coverage at $33 a day.
Doing it early means a blurry photo or an insurance query gets sorted while it's harmless. Doing it on the day means it gets sorted while we're parked outside. Full checklist:

The bottom line
Book when your dates are firm and the total price works. For most trips that's one to three weeks out; make it three to six for a holiday, a peak week, or any rental of seven days or more.
You don't need to book months ahead. You do need to remember that there are two cars, that a long booking needs a long clear run on one of them, and that canceling is free up to 24 hours before you start.
